Quick & Easy Baby Blanket

Who doesn’t love a quick and easy baby blanket?

I recently had the opportunity to help one of my dear friends (and surrogate sister-in-law) with a baby blanket she was working on for her youngest daughter, Clara.

After seeing the adorable Easy Peasy Baby Blanket that I created for my daughter, she just had to make one for her daughter too. She started working away on this baby blanket (whenever she found time) for about 2-3 weeks and then, as is the life of a mom of 3, she became busy, the blanket was put aside and life went on in it’s normal crazy way.

Fast forward several months and her sweet little Clara is about to turn one. I’d just run across this awesome article Alternative to Gift Giving at Birthday Parties and I was trying to come up with a non-toy present idea for this soon-to-be one-year-old. And seriously y’all, I was having a little bit of trouble.

*Insert Lightbulb Moment* All of a sudden, I remembered that blanket that was started all those months ago. “What if I finished the blanket and that would be my gift to Clara and her mom?” After trying to plot ways of sneaking it out of her house or roping her husband into helping me, I finally decided that I was just going to ask her about it (because seriously y’all, I’m not very sneaky).

I was a little nervous that she might not like the idea. I thought maybe she would want it to be something that she alone had created for her daughter. Luckily though, she loved the idea!

She quickly brought me what she had started and handed it right over. With less than a week until Clara’s birthday, I started hookin’ away.

One of the things that I loved about this blanket when I was making it for my daughter, was that it works up so quickly. This made it much easier for me to be able to finish Clara’s blanket in such a short period of time.

Birthday Time!

I think one of the best moments in any crochet project is seeing that look on the person’s face when you give them whatever it is that you have made. In a cookie cutter world where it is so easy to just run to the store and grab something off the shelf to present as a gift, I truly believe the simple act of taking the time to sit down and create something special, with that person in mind, can be so much more special.

Now in all honesty, Clara wasn’t super impressed with her blanket. She is only one and I can’t really fault her for being more interested in that yummy cake they were letting her destroy. However, the excitement on her mom’s face was what made my mad dash to get it finished all worth it!

It’s Easy Peasy!

The pattern that I used was a free pattern I found on Yarnspirations.com and the blanket is called the Easy Peasy Baby Blanket.

I used the Caron Simply Soft yarn in Strawberry. With Clara’s blanket, I did make it a little bit smaller than the pattern says. Partly because I ran out of time (and yarn) but also because if it’s anything like the one I made for my daughter, it’ll be carried around with her and I don’t want her to be stepping all over it.

What are some of your favorite baby blankets? I’d love for you to share them with me!
